I’ve never tried this ‘Fake Window Blind’ in person, but if it really works than it’s really cool.
You pull the cords and instead of opening the blinds, a light turns on from the back. This makes it appear like sunlight is streaming through a window just behind. When you twirl the twirly stick (thats what I call it), the light will dim.
A few years ago, I had to stay in an airport hotel due to a layover. Since the hotel was literally inside the airport, I couldn’t expect a window. 🙂
When I checked in, my room was nice & updated and I noticed that on one wall there actually was a tall window curtain hanging from ceiling to floor. Was I one of the lucky ones who actually got a window? 😀 Nope; behind the curtain was a solid wall.
The funny thing is that the tall curtain was sort of comforting. Just an illusion that there was a big window but that alone made the small room a lot less claustrophobic.
Bright Blind was designed by Makoto Hirahara, and though they are made and priced to order, if you feel creative you might be able to figure out how to do this yourself with some led’s or something.
