My father in law Richard received a surprise retirement party. It was planed and carried out by my mother in law Laurie and she did an amazing job. She came up with such a cool concept with lots of cute detail too. From the decorations all the way to the cake.
Check it out.
Richard had been working as a carpenter for over 30 years, so the theme of the party was, of course, ‘construction’. What a really great idea.
Other than being a carpenter, he is also a great musician which is why Laurie created a stage area, which was marked off with construction cones & yellow caution ribbon. the provided the entertainment himself, with the help of a few of his buddies who all brought their instruments. The hardest part was getting his own guitar out of the house without him noticing.
The decorations for the cake table definitely followed the ‘construction theme’. There were 2 construction helmets. Real ones that belonged to the both of them, 2 levels, construction themed paper plates & napkins, heavy construction vehicle toys and Mattel’s Little People™ contractors (My son loved that), & more of that caution ribbon. 😀
The cake was really clever. Laurie ordered a plain white frosting cake with no decorations other than the white border & a the words “Congratulations Richard”. When the cake arrived, she added 3 construction cone candles from Party City, 3 little construction cars and brown sugar which made the cake look like it had dirt on it. I love how cute the cake turned out with just a little touch here & there. 🙂
For the table center piece, she used a construction hat to hold party-mix & a measuring cup to hold spoons & forks. The final touch was a tiny construction vehicle toy & a jar of nails. 🙂
It was a fun theme and everyone had fun with it.
