The South Coast Air Quality Management is sponsering a gas-mower exchange. If you are a resident of Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside or San Bernardino county, then you can take your old gas guzzler and exchange it for an electric one at a significant discount.

Exchanges take place at 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. You must register and spots are limited. Go to aqmd.gov to make a reservation.

May 14 – Long Beach

May 21 – Inglewood

June 4 – Riverside

June 11 – Pasadena

June 18 – Rancho Cucamonga

July 9 – Northridge

July 23 – Anaheim (Angel Stadium)

There is also one in Maryland that has taken place since 1995 called “the Great Maryland Lawn Mower Exchange“. The last one took place in August of 2010.

There are several programs around the globe that exist to do similar exchanges. Check your local air quality organization to see if there is one in your area.
