A few Saturdays each month, Lowe’s has free workshops for kids called ‘Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinics’. All of their projects are recommended for grades 1st-5th.
The projects vary & sometimes they belong to a series.
Last Christmas the kids were making a locomotive, a passengers car & a caboose in 3 separate workshops. 🙂 For these kinds of special projects, there are often LOTS of kids interested, so the line can get really long. Because Lowe’s only has a limited numbers of kits, sadly quiet number of kids don’t get to participate. It’s very important to arrive on time or even early to get a spot.
Lowe’s starts the workshop at 10 am until they run out of kits. You can just get the kit and take it home to do it later but before a parent or guardian can get one, they have to fill out & sign a release form. Also, they have to have their child/children with them at the time.
You can also sign up for the project you’re interested in ahead of time online, so they’ll save a kit for you, but only until 10.15 am. If you don’t pick it up by then, they will give your kit to a child waiting in line. When you sign up online, you’ll be able to choose from which Lowe’s you will go to, and which project you would like your child to do.
For the Lowe’s Build & Grow Clinics this Saturday, 9/24/2011, the kids will be making a Fire Truck. The cool thing about this Fire Truck project is that the kit will come with a working siren. Cool huh? 😀
As soon as I know when the next project will be I will post a reminder.
