There have been times when I watched an animated kids movie and I decided that it was not a good movie for my son.
The “Kids In Mind” website is a great tool to use when trying to decide what they can watch. Instead of rating a movie based on simple age restriction, “Kids In Mind” rates movies on scales of 0 to 10 over 3 categories; sex & nudity, violence & gore, and profanity.
The current movie rating system can be a little ambiguous. Every one has their own standards that might not match up to what the G rating is supposed to mean. Even if a movie is rated G and is a cartoon, I feel like I have to watch it first, to decide if it’s okay for him or not.
There were times when I had to turn something off, because it was too scary for him; movies that I would not have expected him to react so strongly to because he was not ready for it. It makes it harder to make a decision using just the G rating. So I watch them first. This movie review website will help a lot.
Also included in The “Kids In Mind” website is a detailed explanation about why the movie in question rates high or low in each specific category. To learn more about how these movie ratings work & a more in-depth concept discussion, you can read more on their methodology page.
