The decision to make this cake was made 2 days before it was due. 🙂 So I didn’t really have much time to plan and as usual I didn’t know how I was going to decorate it.  The only thing I knew was that It was going to be a small cake; enough for about 12 people and I wanted it to be less complicated then my previous cakes.
This birthday cake ended up being a 6 inch double-layered round cake. It was a fun one and everyone loved the results.
I like to use white as the based color, so that however I decorated the cake, it will show the colors better.
The night before, after my son was in bed and I had time to myself, I looked around for ideas online. By the time I went to bed I had a general idea about I was going to do, but It didn’t start to become clear in my head until the next afternoon. Originally I was just going to do 2 colors on top of the cake, pink & purple, but after I finished adding the 2 colors there were a few white spots between the swirls. So I decided to add a 3rd color, orange, to cover the white spaces.
This made it more colorful already, but then I wanted to add some green stars around the base of the cake. Thats a simple detail that always looks pretty to me.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the sides yet. I looked around my decorating supplies, that I’ve recently been collecting, until I found a pattern marker that I thought would look nice. The pattern of four went in one direction, but after looking at it I decided that it would look better if I also did some upside down in between.
After that I added green stars in the center of the of each curved pattern, and stood back to get a good look. The birthday cake still needed something, so I added some edible pearls to the green stars and at the left & right of each pattern.
The final detail was 3 yellow dots at the tips of each design. That really pulled it together, I think.
I finished the birthday cake just 30 minutes before I had to delivered it. Speaking about good timing, huh? 😀
You did a great job on it. It’s so pretty!
Thank you! I had fun making it 😀
